Kenya Revenue Authority has recorded a huge inflation in the number of tax payers registration since the launch of its online service in December 2008. The authority’s senior deputy commissioner in charge of marketing and communication Mr. Kennedy Onyonyi announced during a training session for cyber cafĂ© administrators on Tuesday the 9th of March, 2010.
So far, the number of tax payers who have registered online stands at 724,575. Out of this number, 408,898 are new taxpayers. The authority also puts the average monthly tax payers registration at 30,000.For this success, the authority has praised the support of cyber cafes.
In an effort to reach out to a wider number of potential tax payers countrywide, Kenya revenue authority has started courting cyber service providers for a possible partnership. Already the authority has started training cyber administrators on its different online services. The first training was held in Nairobi in which over 400 cyber administrators participated. Similar trainings will be conducted in all the eight provinces.
Still on a campaign for a wider outreach, the tax authority also hopes to bring the Postal Corporation and digital villages on board to enhance accessibility and uptake of its online services.
